7 Whole Food Sources to Cleanse Your Liver

14 Aug

Eating whole foods supports our body’s natural detox process and the liver plays a leading role in this process.

Here are 8 nutritious whole food sources that can aid you in cleansing the liver:

1. Avocados – contain glutathione, which helps to get rid of heavy metals like mercury.
2. Spinach – full of inorganic nitrate, which is known to reduce the buildup of fat in the liver. Spinach is also a great source of iron, calcium, and vitamins A, B, and C.
3. Tomatoes – contain lycopene which protects the liver from free radical damage. [Tomato sauce, tomato paste and even ketchup contain significant levels of lycopene.]
4. Carrots – extremely high in flavonoids and liver-supporting beta-carotene, as well as vitamin A which helps to prevent liver disease.
5. Green leafy vegetables – high amounts of chlorophyll in dark leafy greens like kale triggers the liver to eliminate toxins.
6. Cruciferous veggies like cauliflower and broccoli – detox warriors that play an active role in producing the liver enzymes that flush toxins out of the body.
7. Apples – contain pectin which helps the gut sweep toxins away, in turn helping the liver manage its own load of toxins.

6 Aug

With more than 90 percent water by weight, cucumbers are an excellent source of hydration.

Because they are rich in prolein, an amino acid that supports collagen production, cucumbers are also used in skincare and spa products.

The popular summer veggie also contains vitamin C and caffeic acid which are known to reduce skin irritation and inflammation.

Opt for firm cucumbers without wrinkles or soft spots as these blemishes can indicate moisture loss and/or rot.
